Challenging yourself

A2Z-BADGE [2016]

Challenging yourself throughout your life is something that will always happen. You have to challenge yourself to be better at everything that you do within your life. You cannot settle for nothing less that the best. People may make fun of you because you like to spend your time challenging yourself to learn more about everything in your life. It may be related to work or something else in your life.

She likes to spend her time reading about multiple things and spending time with her family. Using her mind to  make the best of the things that she has in her life. You can only worry about things that are going on around you instead of worrying about things that you cannot control.

Life is a challenge and you have to be willing to go the extra mile to achieve the things that you want out of that life. If you just sit around playing video games you will never accomplish anything but your high score. Making yourself a list of goals to achieve will help you through the challenges that you will face throughout your life.

Things always have a challenging part to them and sometimes you have to be strategic in how you approach those challenges. For example, a person going to college needs to prioritize what they think is the most important thing like graduating college. Instead of putting those assignments on hold because there is a party going on at another person’s frat house. The reason you went to college in the first place is to get that education to get the job that you have spent so much money on.

Achieving a challenge is the greatest feeling that you can have throughout your life because you are working towards something better. You are striving to make your life better by using your money wisely, saving for the future, and making sure that you can become self-sufficient in the world that we are living in now.

Blogging

A2Z-BADGE [2016]

Back in 2011, she started this blog just to write about things that were on her mind, and publish things from college. Since that time her blog has been viewed over 30,000 times and has had the pleasure of meeting some great people that share the same interests as her. She has been absent for some time because of multiple things that has happened in her life to prevent her from keeping up to date with her readers. However, things are looking up and she is getting back on track with some things that she liked to do when she started this blog.

It is quite amazing how far something your write gets around the world. Looking at the multiple countries that have viewed her writing is something that she can never have taken away from her. It is something that she never thought would happen and she did not think that people would read the things that she writes about within the walls of the internet. The feeling that you have when things go your way, and the way that you want them to is something that you can look back on throughout the years.

Blogging has turned out to be a challenge and it is something that she has enjoyed since starting this blog. It is something that soothes her and when she starts writing the words just flow through her mind onto the empty white spaces here. She has always enjoyed writing and hopes to finish her book one day. These things take time to mature throughout the editing, rewriting, and everything else that comes with writing a book. One day she will achieve this and publish for the world to see.

Inspiration from the heart for everyone to read. Hopefully, she is helping others with some of the same types of frustration, and insecurity that she has with her writing. All she wants to do is voice her thoughts about things throughout her life that maybe one day will help other in achieving the goals that they set out for themselves. Life is what you make it and you can spend your time sitting around doing nothing or you can make the most of what your life has to offer. Writing, blogging, and voicing your opinions about things may help other people in the world.

April Challenge accepted

A2Z-BADGE [2016]

I love these types of challenges and looking forward to the upcoming month of April. These are things that keep you motivated to write and keep your reader’s interested in the things that you write about and keep them coming back for more. Cannot wait until the event starts. Better get started now so they can self publish while I am working.

The Archive is Open

Awesome post! You do have to be careful and pay attention to what you write because employer’s do look at these things when they debate about hiring a potential employee.

I walk a difficult tightrope on this blog. I want to be as authentic as humanly possible, but I’m also a professor-in-training; I don’t want to put anything out into the world that I would have trouble explaining to a hiring committee, to my colleagues, or to my students. So I often find myself debating the merits of a post. The problem with this particular brand of censorship is that it’s entirely too fuzzy. That’s because I haven’t articulated to myself what constitutes fair game.

Just now I found myself sitting in front of my computer for a good ten minutes, contemplating the merits of writing a deeply personal post. While this kind of introspection is a good thing generally, SMDS is first and foremost a personal blog. My logic is simple: teaching difficult material is often the best way to learn that material. I blog about becoming the…

Basic Algebra

In actual Junior high school she was never good at math it was not until she reached her Associate’s degree that she started enjoying math. Your associate’s degree is nothing more than rehashing the things that you learned in Junior high school and high school.

To many this is just common sense however, to other’s who have math anxiety, and issues understanding the concepts of basic algebra this might come in handy for them to understand the concepts of learning such algebraic expressions.

Basic algebra is using the same methods like addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. However, algebra also uses letters to represent numbers in the algebraic equations.

Addition in algebra

x + y would mean the sum of x and y equals a certain number

For example: The sum of a and 5 would be written as a + 5

The sum of y and 8 would be written as y + 8

If L plus W it would be written as L + W

So in writing with symbols you could use the following examples to practice writing algebraic equations in addition.

The sum of x and 5    x + 5

9 more than Y     9 + y

a plus b     a + b

Z increased by 7   z + 7

Some problems for you to practice with on your own:

1. The sum of x and y

2. t plus z

3. b plus 9

4. The sum of b and n

5. 15 more than y

6. x increased by 5

7. 9 more than k

8. 100 increased by z

When you learn the words that are used within the algebraic equations it becomes easier to learn how to solve the problem to obtain the right answer.

Subtraction in Algebra

Subtraction is almost the same as addition but the words that you will see for subtraction our a little different.

Some writing expressions that would indicate subtraction would include:

w minus t would be written   w – t

w decreased by 9 would be written  w – 9

9 less than b would be written 9 – b

The difference of t and 15 would be written  t – 15

Some of the problems that you will see throughout your experience in algebra may not make sense to you in the beginning and learning the terms is something that you need to practice so that you do not have issues with the problems on tests or quizzes.

Therefore, here are some problems for you to work on your own:

1. 8 less than p

2. 10 less than t

3. y decreased by w

4. d minus l

5. y minus 9

6. z decreased by 7

7. c decreased by 4

8. t less than 15

I hope that you are still with me here in learning algebraic equations with addition and subtraction. Therefore, we will discuss multiplication, and division.

Multiplication in algebra

There are a variety of ways to write algebraic equations when you are using the multiplication symbol.

a ∙ b

(a)(b)

ab

These examples indicate that the product of a and b or a times b

Now, the words that you might see in multiplication expressions would include:

7 times b could be written like  7 ∙ b   (7)(b)   7b

twice c is written as 2c

6 more than the product of 8 and x would be written like 8x + 6

The product of 8, t, z would be written like 8tz

The product of 6 and the sum of x and w would be written as 6(x + w)

Therefore, here are some problems that you can work on your own.

1. t times z

2. The product of r and w

3. The product of 9, c, and d

4. The sum of twice t and z

5. The product of 8 and the sum of c and t

6.  9 times a

7. The product of 10 and the sum of z and r

8. twice the sum of t and z

Once, you learn the words that are involved with multiplication expressions it becomes easier to spot what you need to do to solve the algebraic equations.

Division in Algebra

w/t means that w divided by t or the quotient of w and y

Therefore, if you see these terms within an algebraic expression you need to divide the numbers.

y divided by 8 is written as y/8

the quotient of z plus t divided by 9 would be written like     z + t/9

The sum of r plus z divided by the difference of w minus a would be written like                   r + z/w-a

Furthermore, when you are just learning algebra and the meanings behind the expressions it becomes easier as you are learning. The problems become easier as you go along because you are understanding the meanings behind the words in the problems.

Therefore, here are some problems for you to work on your own.

1. w divided by 15

2. The quotient when x is divided by 9

3. The sum of s and 6 divided by 3

4. The difference of t and q divided by 8

5. The sum of t and x divided by the difference of a and 6

6. The difference of  y minus t divided by 4

7. The quotient of c plus r divided by 9

8. The sum of y and 5 divided by the difference of y and 5

Within these examples, and problems I hope that you have understood some of the information that I have provided. Homeschooling children can be a fun experience or it can be a total flop. Understanding the information that is before you is the main key to succeeding in learning algebraic expressions.

More to come! The problems will get more complex but I believe that this type of information is good for our children to understand what they are learning in Basic algebra….

Do You Have What it Takes To Be a Part of Our Team?

Although this article is good, I would have to say that these are questions that many companies ask potential employee’s that would want to work for their company. Of course, I am interested in the company or I would not have accepted the interview. So in answer to the three main questions:

Do you have the skills? Let us see here I went to college managed to graduate all three degree’s with a 3.0 or better. I have worked in numerous positions management wise. I have raised three children while attending college. (I know many people do this nowadays). However, after obtaining three degrees in Business Management and Business Administration that is not enough to obtain a job. Because I do not have experience in that field means that they will not give the job to me because they will pick the person who has experience in that field. How do you obtain the experience in that field? Well first, you have to meet someone that is willing to take a chance and give you the opportunity to obtain the experience for that field. That is hard to come by these days!

Are you enthusiastic? I go to work every day because that is what I have to do. Do I like my job? Yes! People that I work with love me because I work and I do my job. Do I motivate others? Yes! I love my job because of the customer’s that is why we are in business. The customer’s is what makes the company money. When they come into your company, establishment or business they are coming in to spend their money that they have worked hard for in return they want great customer service for the tangible or intangible items that you have with your business.

Will you fit into the team? Well you know because I have a great personality I believe that I fit into any type of team. I am what people would call a geek! I know this is on the internet however, I am who I am, and there is nothing that is going to change that. I love to learn new things. I am a leader not a follower I try to do any job with the intentions to get it done without regards to anyone else on the team. You have to work together to get something accomplished. This type of question can mean several different things if you stop and think about it. It could mean are you willing to spend an excessive amount of money and live above your means, take expensive vacations, buy the most expensive car or anything else. In my opinion, you have to be a leader and make sure that the people around you know that you are a leader.

You know for the last seven years I have been told that I have too much education, I do not have enough skills or knowledge, I am over qualified for every job that I apply for, and most of all the moment they find out I am homeschooling puts a big damper on finding the right job. I show up to work on time, I never call out, and when my schedule is changed well that is all part of it. Being in business means that you have to go beyond without regards to how it affects your life. You have to be willing to work countless hours to make sure that your employee’s are doing the job that they are required to do.

So the main question I have towards companies is what can your company do for me? Is there going to be continual learning in how your company works? I have given you a preview of what I can offer and there is more than what I have written here.

Who Says Children Do Not Work?

1349817833205

You know I get told all the time that I will not have any luck getting my teenager’s to do any work in the yard, garden, house or anywhere else. Well since we have homeschooled for the last four years I have gotten more work out of my children than I did when they were attending public schools.

I keep telling my children that I will not clean up after them because they are at the age that they can clean up their own messes. My oldest son has done an excellent job on learning how to fix the plumbing in our house with the help of my husband. My daughter has turned out to be quite the cook in the kitchen, and keeping it nice and clean. My youngest teenager does the best job which is avoiding work as much as he can (LOL).

However, he has improved on putting forth the effort when we take his games, television, and other items that he may enjoy away from him. We try to teach them that the world does not revolve around them and that they have to work hard for the things that they want out of life.

We are very protective of our children and we limit the places that they go, people they talk to, and anything else because the only thing that matters in my opinion is that they receive an education. Everything else beyond that is optional. Since we have moved they do not have many friends not because we do not want them to have friends but because they do not need to worry about fitting into the crowd right now.

There is not a shy bone in any of our children and I am sure that they will make friends when they finally make their way into the workforce. However, we do talk to them about choosing the right friends over the wrong friends. I personally, have only a handful of friends because they usually stab you in the back, talk about you when you are not there to stand up for yourself, and use you for what they can.

Some people say that I miss out on many things because I do not have friends. You know what I enjoy spending more time with my family instead of trying to fit in with the crowd. I know that I am a geek, love to learn about new things, and live my life to the fullest with the company of my family. The only ones that will stick up for you when it really comes down to it is your family.
